Lets Talk about ENRICHED AIR sometimes called NITROX

NITROX or ENRICHED Air is a relatively new and safer way to dive. In a course that is just
a day and a half long and includes 2 great dives, you can be certified as a NITROX diver.

PADI NITROX certification is available to divers from any recognized dive certification agency.

As Certified divers we know that one of the risks involved in diving comes as a result of a build up of nitrogen in our body tissues. Too much nitrogen in our body tissues can be dangerous. It can cause bubble formation in our tissues on assent. We commonly call this THE BENDS or DECOMPRESSION ILLNESS.

Although incidents of the bends are very rare, it makes good sense to take every measure to reduce the risk of decompression illness. This is where NITROX comes in.

We know as divers that what we are breathing in a scuba tank is dried and filtered air that is 21% oxygen and 79% nitrogen. NITROX, or ENRICHED AIR changes the mixture in your scuba tank to be up to 40% Oxygen and 60% nitrogen. The benefit is obvious. Less nitrogen and more oxygen is a good thing.

THE BENEFIT OF DIVING WITH NITROX

If you dive 40 minutes on a Nitrox mixture of (for example) 32% oxygen and 68% nitrogen, your nitrogen exposure will be significantly less than if you were diving the same amount of time on plain air.

This is increasingly important if you fall into the category of people that have contributing factors that makes you more susceptible to decompression illness. Some of these factors are being over 40 years of age or being overweight.

THE COURSE
The course takes one and a half days. On the first day we teach the academic portion of the course and on the second day we analyze your tanks and do 2 recreational dives on Nitrox. That's it. You are done. All your equipment is included during the course.

Although NITROX has been called SAFE AIR it is very important that you never try to dive it without training. To do so can be very dangerous. There is a risk of oxygen toxicity if you do not know what you are doing. Our function is to ensure that you will safely learn how to dive Nitrox
